Showers & Shaving

Well, I got one leg shaved this morning. Jacob climbed on top of the laundry hamper, then on top of the bathroom counter and found a baggy of vitamins so up, out of the bath I came. I'm just glad I still can shave and tie my shoes and all that! Maybe tomorrow I'll get the other one shaved!

This is him climbing up his fort.

I had my weekly check-up yesterday. All is good; Amy estimated Jenna to weigh around 7lbs right now. She stressed that it was JUST A GUESS but w/ 2 weeks to go, I hope she doesn't get much bigger!

Sunday was my baby shower from the church girls. It was really fun. We played games and the cake was so cute and yummy! I love all my church girls; they are so awesome - more like family than friends!

Me at my shower from the girls at church. I love you MRBC girls! Don't you just love these baskets? Thanks Deneese!

My shower at work was a few weeks ago. It was fun too. We got lots of super cute outfits at that shower and lots of size 2 diapers!?! Don't know why size 2; I guess everyone was thinking they're little for such a short amount of time...

Me at my work shower.

One cute thing J has been doing this week: he's humming along to the different songs that his toys play. He went from silence to humming 50 different songs. Kids are so strange. It's like when he decided to let me know that he knew his colors. He went from knowing none to knowing all of them!

Aunt Heather was in town last week for work so we had dinner w/ her one night. Jacob LOVES her so it's always a treat when he gets to see her.

Monkey Boy

Jacob coloring...this is his super cheesy smile.

Jacob in the dryer...another first this week!

Jacob has been a real monkey today. First of all, he is now able to open the doors. We have GOT to go to WalMart and get some of those door knob thingies. Anyways, we spent the morning outside. I bathed the dogs while he played with the hose. When Brian got up, we were off to wash my car. Then it was donuts (a BIG treat for Jacob) and playtime. It must have been the sugar b/c this kid was climbing everything!

First it was up the guest bed to jump. Not a first but he does it with no effort these days. Then, I found him standing on the seat of the exercise bike. Ok, guess he figured out how to climb up it. A few minutes later I found him on OUR BED. For those of you that have been to our house, you know our bedroom furniture is HUGE. Our bed comes up to above my belly button. I think he used the bedside table to scale up enough to get his feet on the side rails. The monkey! Then, when I was in the bath he hurled himself over the side of the tub (a garden tub). I barely caught him...I was rinsing my face at the time. I had to hurry and get out because he had scaled the laundry hamper (it's wicker) and was standing on top of it!

He has also been very into coloring this week. I have no idea where he got the idea. We've tried in the past and he's had no interest. Jolene had some colors; maybe that's where he got the idea. Anyways, all week he's asked for "colors" and he has made some lovely pictures. I'm going to see how fast this new internet is now at posting pictures!

Caller ID, Swimming, Potty

The Verizon man came today. I must forewarn everyone that we are now in the 21st century. I know we're a few years late but we now have caller ID (AND call waiting)!!!! So I can totally screen calls now. That is so exciting! I did it before by just not answering if I didn't feel like it but if the person didn't leave a message, that was annoying. Now I can see who called! We also have super duper internet so hopefully I'll be able to download more pics faster.

We had mommy and me Bible study this morning. Jacob found a second spot he can escape the church playground. Always good to know. It was really HOT, even though it was 9am, in the shade! Still glad I went. Ione is a great "leader" even though she says she's not leading she's just organizing. Whatever!

We also went swimming at Marla's neighborhood pool w/ her and the boys plus Melissa and the girls. It was fun even though Jacob didn't want to swim (all he wants to do is run). We lasted 30-40 minutes. It was good to hand with friends, if only for a little while.

I have my check-up tomorrow. I'm sure it will be same-ole-same-ole. I have decided to do cheap "belly pictures." We spent a small fortune when I was pregnant w/ Jacob but I LOVE them so I didn't want to totally skip them this time. We will go to JCPenney's and get some simple cheap pics done next week.

We tried potty training yesterday morning. I lasted an hour. Two pees on the floor and I was done. He seems to be better at knowing when he has to poop than pee. Although he did go when I randomly put him on the potty a few times today. Maybe I will try pull-ups. I've heard they don't work b/c the kids can't feel it when they go but Jacob didn't seem to mind soaking wet undies like he was supposed to so I think pull-ups are a good option.

Visit w/ the Reeds

We went to visit our good friends the Reeds this weekend. They moved from Lavon to Sulphur Springs back in February and we miss them so much! Brian and Tracy worked together in the Mervyn's distribution center back in the day and we became great friends.

Their little Jolene is 2 1/2 and as sweet as a button! Wow can you tell the difference between girls and boys! Jacob had a blast running through their house with her baby stroller and she chased him so she could cover up her baby inside! She is so precious, so calm and quiet and sweet.

We had lots of fun during our short visit. Tracy is expecting baby #2 in December. I'm so glad they didn't move far, far away. It was less than an hour and a half to their house so hopefully we'll be able to get together more often (we hadn't seen them since Jo's bday party in January).

I forgot my camera but hopefully Tracy got a pic or two of the kidos. If so I'll post one later. They are so cute together!!

Ryan (our post-lung transplant patient) is doing well. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. He should get to go home in another week or so if things continue to go well. Isn't that amazing?!

Pray for Ryan

Worked today. One of our cystic fibrosis patients got new lungs this past weekend. I am soooo happy for him! He is the 3rd patient we've had in the past 5 years get a transplant. The first one is doing great, the second not so good. We are hoping for the best. Please keep Ryan in your prayers.

My feet are nice and swollen tonight. They seem to do that on the days I work (out of the home that is). Nothing major like w/ Jacob.

One quick thing I think is so cute...ever since Jacob learned how to give kisses Brian would ask for "a kiss", then "one more" then "one more" etc. The poor kid doesn't understand the ONE part of "one more" because daddy just keeps asking for "one more" until he decides to stop giving out kisses! For example, he loves to go down his slide then say "one more" then go down again and say "one more" etc etc etc. Everything is ONE more, not just more please. We're working on it.

Jenna and Jacob Update

First, a quick potty update. We have peed in the potty before bath 3 nights in a row! I still haven't really started "training" - am waiting another week until I'm off for several days in a row.

Anyways, tonight was a bit more challenging. He did pee, then got in the tub and started pooping. To make a long story short we went back and forth from the tub to the potty several times. In the end he pooped twice in the tub, twice on the bath mat between the tub and potty and 3 times in the potty. What can I say, Nana brought over lots of fruit from the farmers market last night and Jacob was FULL of **IT! I'm still proud of him.

Sunday night was the variety show and auction for our children's ministry. It's always fun. I baked a carrot cake to be auctioned - I hear it was a popular item! Thanks Jennifer for the kudos!

I had my home visit with one of the midwives today. It went well. Baby Jenna seems to be doing great. We talked a little about what to expect...Jacob came so fast odds are this one will too. Becky (the midwife that came) said Amy (my "normal midwife"...she delivered Jacob) is planning on attending my birth : ) This made me super happy because I love Amy but who knows if she'll be on call when I go into labor. She wasn't my "normal" midwife when I had Jacob but God had it all worked out. I have continued to pray this time around that I go into labor when the "right" midwife is on call etc. Now I don't have to worry too much about that 'cause Amy's coming no matter what!

I'm still working on her room. There's not much else I can do by myself. The rest is more muscle work. Once the donation people come this weekend to pick up the ROOM FULL OF STUFF I have gathered, we'll be able to get the rest of the furniture out of her room and paint.

A friend from church gave me a bunch of maternity clothes today. I am so grateful...I was down to 2 pairs of shorts and a few shirts. I'm huge, let's face it. So thank you Tammy - I really really am grateful!

POOP!

Two exciting things happened today. I'll start with the most recent because I know the title sparked your interest.

Jacob was in the tub tonight and said "poop." We've been talking about potty training (he loves his potty-time books) and he has a potty he sits on sometimes (we mostly try before bath time) but that's about all. Anyways, so I said ok, why not and pulled him out of the tub. We dried off a bit then I sat him on the potty and he started peeing!

I was shocked b/c he always pees as soon as his feet hit the water in the tub. In fact, I've got him trained to pee into the diaper we just pulled off b/c it grosses me out that he pees in his clean water. That's why we try to go potty before the bath. Anyways, so then I encourage him to go poop and he did! Three little terds! I was so proud.

This was actually his second potty adventure. About a week ago after we'd been working outside, we all came in for a shower (Jacob LOVES taking showers w/ us). Right after we got out he started grunting and trying to poop on the floor. Brian grabbed him and tried to set him on the big potty in our bathroom but he was obviously very uncomfortable and wanted to stand....so Brian stood him up on top of the toilet. He then peed down into the toilet and stood there and pooped!

I thought it was just a fluke. You always hear people say that boys don't do well with potty training until they are 3 and you don't want to push it etc...That's why I've been reluctant to try even though he tells me right after and sometimes before he poops. He often wakes up from naps dry and sometimes is dry in the mornings too. So, I guess maybe we'll give this potty training thing a real try and if it doesn't work, we'll wait a while. No big deal.

So now for the other exciting story. We were loading up the car getting ready to take some extra swing set bolts back to home depot. Brian had buckled Jacob into his car seat and given him the keys to "play with" while he got something out of his car. As soon as the car door shut BEEP BEEP! Jacob locked the doors.

He loves to play with the keyless entry buttons-this isn't anything new. It makes his so happy to make the horn honk over and over and over. I walked out of the house into the garage right as this was happening. It was one of those slow-motion moments. Brian immediately started yelling at him to hit the "other button." I calmly walked over and started yelling for Jacob to hit the "bottom button."

Within seconds my eyes were welling up with tears. Hormones I know. I wasn't panicing, I just couldn't help but think that it was suppose to be >100 degrees, we were in the garage, and Jacob was locked inside a car that wasn't running. I excused myself, turned my back, and took a few steps away. I started praying out loud, asking God to show Jacob what button to press. Within seconds I heard the click and Brian had grabbed the door handle and opened it.

GOD IS SO GOOD! I know it was him. Jacob never hits the other two buttons. Not even the panic button that makes the horn honk non-stop. He just loves the lock button. So our lesson is learned, no harm done. Brian said he was totally prepared to bust out a window. Thankfully the whole ordeal went down in a matter of less than 2 minutes so that didn't have to happen.

I had to add a picture of our exciting potty night. Hope you don't get too grossed out!

Swing Set

Last night and this morning were spent putting together Jacob's new swing set. Well, the swing set isn't new but it's new to us. A friend my dad works with moved into a house that had it in the backyard. Being that she is single and has no kids, she was happy to get rid of it. Yes, for free! So my dad spent 2 evenings after work at her house taking it apart. Alone. By hand. He's such a great Papa!

My parents brought it over yesterday around 4. The unloading began and then the frustrations began. Let's just say my dad sort-of labeled where pieces go. He did email several pictures before he took it apart so that helped. It's old and some of the bolts were rusty and broke. We had to replace a few pieces of wood too. That wasn't a big deal but figuring out which directions the poles needed to go and how it all fit together was interesting, especially w/ anal Alcorn (Brian) working w/ let's just throw-it-together and make it work Dad! Oh, and did I mention they worked until 10pm, yes, in the dark to get the bulk of it done.

Now it's done and Jacob LOVES it! He ran to the back door first thing this morning to peek out and make sure it was still there. We got him a little swing today which he loves. He can climb up the ladder (it's around 5ft) by himself which scares me half to death. He can also climb all the way up the slide.

So it wasn't the relaxing 2 days off that Brian was hoping for but he kept saying "I've got to go finish this for Jacob b/c he deserves to have the best fort on the block!" How sweet!

Just Another Day

Not much exciting happened today. I was in the nursery helping all morning at church. It was fun to be in there with Jacob. It makes me appreciate what a great kid he is!

Jacob walked up 4 stairs today. He usually climbs up them or holds on to the rails but earlier he just started walked straight up them with his hands up in the air! He's so little, I don't know how his short legs did it but they did!

We also read his new "I'm a Big Brother" book about 20 times today. Thanks mom and Thalia for all the "new baby" books. He loves them all. He is also very into "Goodnight Moon" right now. I think we read it 4 or 5 times today.

I'm looking forward to spending the next 2 days with Brian. It's rare that we're off together for 2 days in one week!

I Love Jacob

Can I just tell you how much I love Jacob? He is the sweetest little thing ever. Despite the fact that he was very needy this afternoon and yes, driving me somewhat crazy, I just love that kid to pieces! He is the best. Here's a few reasons why: You can't leave his room at night time or nap time or hang up the phone without hearing his sweet little voice say "I luv lu" even if you don't say it first. He gives great kisses, especially zerberts on my big round belly. He's a parrot and knows when he's repeating something mommy or daddy should not have said out loud-which he thinks is especially funny. The latest was when mommy said "God a Mighty" which he repeated while laughing hysterically about 20 times in a row. I try my hardest not to laugh but sometimes I can't help it.

We bought paint today for baby's room! We got a gallon of "Springtime Bloom" which is a shade of pink. Yes, I said pink. I know what some of you are thinking...you hate pink, Hannah. I don't hate all pink...just the pastel baby pink that every baby girl everything comes in. This is a very bright, fun pink. We also got a quart of "Garden Spot" which is a sort-of sherberty limey sagey green. I think we're going to do ONE stripe of the green all the way around the room (horizontal). Not a thousand stripes like J's room (which looks awesome by the way).

That's all for now. I'm impressed w/ myself, 2 blogs in 2 days! Go me!

Happy 4th

So...I have loved reading all of my friend's blog so much I decided it was time to start my own. I hope I am not setting anyone up for disappointment...I'm NOT a journaler at all! I tried to start a journal when I found out I was pregnant w/ #2...I lasted a week or two. It is funny to look back; all I did was beg God for the nausea and vomiting to stop! It did eventually...thank goodness you can't have your tubes tied while you are pregnant!

Today is July 4th. When you are a nurse and your husband is a police officer, holidays just aren't the same. Someone is always working but we try to make the most of it. I am watching fireworks out the window while Jacob sleeps and Brian works. At least Brian is off Thanksgiving AND Christmas this year (they just happened to fall on his off days!)

The only thing exciting we did today is register at Target for baby. I thought it was fun. Brian thought it was torture. Never the less, it got done. I hope to buy paint for baby's room tomorrow. Will let you know what we decide on!
