Triple Tag

I have been tagged by 3 blogging friends so here are 6 random things about me:

1. I HATE the sound of a crying baby. Who ever said "just let them cry it out" was either deaf, heartless, or never had kids and doesn't know the love that goes with it.

2. I have east Texas roots. I can hear them coming out in Jacob; it's so sweet to hear his little Texas twang!

3. In high school, I thought I wanted to be a doctor. Actually, I wanted to be a prosthetist. No, not a prostitute! It's the person who makes and fits artificial limbs. I did an intership with one in high school but decided there wasn't enough patient care involved. Then, I did an internship at Children's Medical Center cause I thought maybe a pedi doc would be cool. That's when I decided to become a nurse. Once again, the MD had so little patient involvement.

4. I love my wedding ring. I don't understand how people can trade in their wedding rings for bigger ones. Who cares? I think a wedding ring is so special and sentimental. I'll keep my 1/2 carat forever thank you!

5. I hate being fat. It's something I'm not familiar or comfortable with. After having Jacob I really struggled with body image for the first time in my life. Don't get me wrong. I've carried an extra 15-20 lbs since college but I never felt like I was fat. I was so happy when I lost all the baby weight. Then I got pregnant again. I will be so happy when this blob on my belly and thighs shrinks.

6. I once had an enormous collection of fingernail polish. I had close to 100 colors. When I lived in the dorms, the girls would always come borrow it. I always had my nails painted. They were never very long but they still looked pretty. Then I started nursing school had no time to do my nails!

Now, if you're tagged, here's what you do:
1. Post the rules on your blog
2. Write 6 random things about yourself
3. Tag 6 people
4. Please pass it on for fun...

So now I'm tagging Sarah, Wanissa, and Jen. I think they are the only ones left I know that haven't been tagged! I gotta get more blogging friends!

PUUUPPEEEEE

We had pictures taken yesterday. It would have been great if not for the photographer's dog. You see her studio is in her house...as soon as we arrived Jacob ran back into the kitchen where there was a dog in a kennel. No big deal. He talked to the dog and had a great time. As soon as it was time to take some pictures, he threw a fit.

All he wanted was to play with the puppy. She even put the dog outside. We played peek-a-boo, bribed with candy and still no luck. He did simmer down for a few minutes but by then Jenna was irritated. So I think she got a few family shots with everyone happy except Jenna. Then she got a few close-ups of just Jacob. They were close-ups to hide the bag of goldfish in his hand. Next she shot Jenna-those will be great I'm sure. Of course once Jacob saw sister lying there he wanted to kiss on her. 5 minutes before he refused to hold her (something he LOVES doing at home). So she got some pics of him kissing on her. Don't know if any of them will show his face or not.

So I guess pictures with a 2 yr old aren't a guarantee. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there are some good shots somehow in there. We go back in a week or 2 to view the pictures. Will let you know how that turns out.

P.S. Happy Birthday to my mommy who never reads my blog but happy birthday anyway!

J-A-C-O-B

Jacob got the wood letters that spell his name for his birthday from the Reeds (Jenna got them too). I finally painted them this week and got Jacob's hung. They are so cute! When he walks in his room and sees them, he smiles really big. Then I start singing J-A-C-O-B to the tune of B-I-N-G-O. He asks me to sing in again and again. When I spell his name, he always repeats it like this: J-C-B-D-D. Close, sort of! Oh ya, and he bounces as he spells. So precious!

Wyde Bool

Riding the Bull followed by the Daddy Slide

Jacob jumping on the couch. He likes to stand on the arm of the couch and do a belly flop. Another favorite is to stand on the chair and do a belly flop onto the ottoman. He did it the other day and I swear the ottoman was at least 5 feet away from the chair. He likes to scare me death. Needless to say he made it. I don't know how. I guess he has frog legs.

Brian said I had to blog about this picture (the 1st one)...him and Jacob do this thing where Jacob climbs onto his legs and he "rides the bull" aka "wyde bool". Brian kicks his legs and throws Jacob up 10 times. That's right, 10. This cowboy well surpasses the required 8 seconds. He then follows it up with the "daddy slide" where he dives down Brian's legs. This picture shows the transition from the last bull "kick" into the daddy slide.

My boys are nuts! They are so cute though. Brian and Jacob work out together often. It's so cute. Jacob walks around with the 2 or 3 lb dumbbells and does his curls. He also climbs onto the weight bench and lays across it sideways and does leg raises. He's going to be buff one day!
Jacob crawled into the pack-and-play to hang with his sis.

He held Jenna all by himself this week. He was very proud. He often asks to "hold her" but usually I hold him while he holds her. He did a very good job holding her up. He has been more gentle the last few days. I guess it depends on his mood.

Today was our first day back at church. It was so nice to see all of our church family again. Jenna and Sara Beth hung out in Bible study and during church. Sara Beth is 2 weeks older than Jenna; they are good friends. Soon there will be 2 more girls to add to the pack. My friend Marla should be having Emma within the next 3 weeks and Maggie Jane is due the end of October. Marla has 2 boys and Jackie (Maggie Jane's mom) has 3 boys so we are super excited for both of them. Girls are awesome. I didn't think they would be but they are!

This is actually a smile ; )

Let the torture begin

Well, Jacob has decided that Jenna isn't fragile anymore. His "pat-pats" have turned to "slap-slaps"! Now that she is awake more I really think he thinks she can "play" with him. He treats her the same way he treats the dogs. That's why I think he's just "playing". One day this week he poured cold water from the Ozarka dispenser on her face (he was giving her a drink I'm sure), another day he colored on her head with one of his new washable crayons (thanks Marla!). He loves to look at her and kiss her, and now that she looks back and follows him with her eyes, that's super funny to him.

The Hawk
We have a hawk that likes to hunt the little sparrows that hang out in our backyard bushes. He was first spotted by my dad the day after Jenna was born. He has since been seen off and on. He likes to dive bomb the little birdies in the bushes. Sometimes I think he is just torturing them. Brian has been dying to get a picture of it. Well, today I was in the backyard with the camera in my hand when he appeared. He dive bombed the birds then swooped across the yard coming directly at my head. Seriously, it was about 4 ft off the ground and coming straight towards me. He was about 10 feet away when he flew up up and away. By the time I grabbed my camera and turned it on he was gone. Oh well, maybe next time.

We ran some errands yesterday. Jacob got new shoes. We pay more for his shoes that we do for our own. Not really but it seems like it, especially since he only wears them for maybe 2 months before he outgrows them. I just think it's important to have properly fitting shoes so Stride Rite gets our money every few months. We also bought him a shirt for pictures next week. I am sooooo excited about getting their pictures done. He had his 2yr check up this week; he is a whopping 24 pounds and 33 1/2 inches. He is in the 5-10% for weight but all the way in the 30-40% for height.

Jacob's first "tie" shoes!

Jenna is beautiful. She has started this open-mouth half grin thing that's really cute. She LOVES sleeping on her daddy. She is doing well at night, wakes up after about 5 hrs then again 3 hours later. The 3 hr later feeding is just a snack. I'm hoping she gives that up soon. Can you believe she is only 1 month old?!

Other than that we've just been spending lots of time outside. The weather doesn't get much better than this! We got 2 new trees this week (thanks mom) - hopefully there will be a little more shade next summer for the kidos. J-Bub's 2!

Happy Birthday To You! sung by J as "happy dee dee to you"

The whole familyJacob's new truck from Nana and Aunt Heather

Happy Birthday Jacob! It is hard to believe that a few short years ago, we were a DINK family. We were happy...we could do what we wanted when we wanted. Then Jacob came along and our definition of happiness was transformed. It truly is amazing how one tiny little creature can change your whole world. I love my Jacob more than I could ever imagine loving anyone or anything. He gives meaning to my life in a way I never knew possible. Happy Birthday to my precious angel.sharing bumble bee with Jenna

Happy Birthday Aaron

Today would have been my brother Aaron's 30th birthday. He died when I was 14; he was only 15. If he were still here, I would have gotten him a really tacky over-the-hill type card. I'm sure he would have returned the favor on my 30th (we were only 16months apart). And yes, that is where Jenna got her middle name (Erin). So happy birthday to my brother in heaven. I'm sure he is partying with the angels as I type!

Mommy Moments

This blog is for my mother-in-law. She was at our house yesterday and witnessed this "mommy moment". In fact, I probably would not have realized how "special" it was had she not have been there and pointed it out (she was crying!!!). So here it goes...
I returned home from a quick grocery run to a screaming Jenna. She doesn't cry often, at least not like that so I immediately ran over and snatched her from Brian. He explained that she had been screaming for a while and he had tried everything but nothing was calming her down. Well, within 10 seconds of me getting her, she put her head on my shoulder and was ASLEEP. Just like that. She just wanted her mommy : )
Poor Brian. He was really stressed out from her screaming. And even though I calmed her immediately, she was fussy off and on all evening. I am hoping I ate something that upset her tummy and not that this is the beginning of a colicky phase.
So thanks Jan for opening my eyes to this special moment. I'm sure these mommy moments happen all the time without even being recognized. I love being a mommy!
